Mike Biggar is an Atlantic Canadian country-rock artist that is ready to shake up the Canadian music charts! Take a behind-the-scenes look at the making of his boxing inspired music video that I even get to make a cameo in!
Mike Biggar’s new music video, off his debut album for the title track “Feels Like Now,“ is sure to be a win! The inspirational song has been brought to life through the creative vision of its director Steven Doiron. Steven has done some very impressive music videos for many up and
coming artists in New Brunswick, as well as directed and written various
award winning short films.
If you have ever wondered what goes into shooting a music video, let me
tell you it is a lot of work and takes a full team of people!
I was on set for the video where the boxing scenes
were filmed with the help of a local boxing club and two female boxers
that could seriously kick a**! The ability to shoot on location with
actual students and instructors has given the music video a real sense
The performance footage of Mike was shot on an earlier day that
took place in an equally interesting backdrop, a rooftop overlooking
the city’s uptown. To match that performance footage, more roof top scenes were also filmed, this time with one of the star boxers!
During my time on set I noticed how Steven developed a creative
shooting concept for the music video, building up a dynamic connection
between sights and sounds. He wrote down a list of camera shots and
visual storyboards for the fight scenes that the fantastic crew of local
filmmakers were shooting.
When I arrived on the production back in September
2013, the crew was getting the set lit and the camera angles in
position. The director would review the scene list and arrange shots in
the sequences needed. Different camera angles were used for more visual
pace or creativity.

The song and the video for "Feels Like Now” is about
fighting though your obstacles. It is about seizing the opportunities in
your life and going for it! Mike is proof. He did not just talk about
what he wanted out of life, he did it! His album was recorded in
Nashville, Tennessee & Saint John, New Brunswick and mastered in
Mike told me that it was inspired by his weight loss journey to
reclaim his health. Mike has put into action his message of doing
things now and making a change. Mike hopes that this album will inspire
others to take charge of their life, get through their personal battles
and go for their goals!
It is an inspirational music video that will go hand in hand and show the same spirit as his new empowering album. The
hope is that this music video will be used as a promotional tool to
share Mike’s music and story on various music and talk shows across
Not only was I covering the shoot, but I also got to be in the video! We (including Mike’s manager Jeff Liberty)
got to portray very enthusiastic audience members watching the match!
Mike took the above photo of us all in between a take when our director

Steven and the crew never stopped the entire time. In the photo below
Steven did not pass out from exhaustion! Just that he is willing to go
to any lengths to get the perfect shot! Even if that means being a human

The shoot was a lot of fun! Thank you to Steven, Mike and the crew for inviting me on set!

Continuing with the boxing theme I will leave you with a
fitting quote that relates to Mike and all of us that are trying to
“fight” for our dreams. “He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.” – Muhammad Ali.
