Film #105 of 2014: “Heatstroke”

This film will make you look at Hyenas differently.

On a family trip in the African desert, a research scientist (particularly specializing in Hyenas) unintentionally travels off course and is brutally murdered by an arms dealer. His girlfriend is put to the ultimate survival test as she attempts to evade the killers and protect his teenage daughter.

I thought this was a really interesting and different survival thriller film. It was vividly photographed and provided a suitably scenic, dust-choked backdrop of the South African terrain. I  liked the symbolism of the hyenas, and how the film looked at them in a different light, instead of just cold blooded killers.

The film stars the talented and often underrated Stephen Dorff. It also features “Game of Thrones” star Maisie Williams, dropping not only her English accent, but also her cunning ambition to take down the Lannisters! This is her first film role, and if it is any indications she should have a solid film career.

I also recommend watching the film “Burning Bright” (2010).
